Conker's Rules
Conker’s Rules for Animation Showreels

Keep it under two minutes
Make an immediate impression by presenting a showreel which displays great animation after great animation. Even if you have twelfty hundred animations, just choose your best work.

Adding in even one poor or average animation will put doubt in your potential employer's mind: don't allow that to happen. Showreels that are too long, unless they're full of astounding and interesting animations, tend to become a bit dull and forgettable. Remember, chances are that the person looking at your showreel will also be looking at a dozen or so more!

Just show us your animation
If your aim is to apply for a job as an animator, then just concentrate on the animation. Each application is delivered to someone in the company who specialises in a particular artistic area; therefore an animation portfolio will get handed to an animator. They won't be looking for modelling skills or how well textured the character is. All they want to see is decent animation, even if it's on a stick man with no face!

Keep it simple
Presentation is important, but keep it simple and easy on the eye. Don't have music overlaying your lip synchs too loudly. Keeping it simple ensures that there is nothing to distract your potential employer from looking at your animation.

Specify the work that YOU did
If you've worked as part of a team to create a short film or piece of animation, always include a credit list of the shots that belong to you. Don't include other people's work unless you specify it as being by somebody else.

Check that it works
If you send us a link to your showreel or portfolio, check that the link works, that you haven't used up your bandwidth or spelt something wrong in the hyperlink. If you're sending it in on a disk, make sure you provide your showreel in a couple of different formats, thus ensuring that your potential employer will definitely be able to look at your work.
