What qualifications/skills do I need to become a Musician?
A music degree is certainly not a prerequisite; all we are concerned with is that you have the necessary talent and can write a good tune, in as many different styles as possible.
|
Are there any courses/Universities that you would recommend?
Try to look for courses that promote compositional and melody writing skills, as opposed to ones that are more geared towards dance music and showing you how to use the latest bit of kit.
|
Is previous industry experience required?
No, but we would say the more experience of different types of music you can get, the better. |
What should I include in my demo?
Pieces which display strong compositional and melody writing skills. Think of great film composers (John Williams, James Horner, Hans Zimmer, and Danny Elfman), not dance music. We only ask applicants to provide music written to a brief once they have reached interview stage.

What qualifications do I need to become a Sound Engineer?
There are numerous Sound Engineering courses available in the UK (try looking in the back of Sound on Sound). Look for courses which will provide a thorough understanding of traditional studio engineering, audio post production, 5.1/Surround, foley and location recording techniques. A good understanding of Pro Tools and Sound Forge is also beneficial. Often companies provide free, cut-down versions of their software, which are usually available to download from their websites. |
