STAFF PROFILE: GARY, GAME DESIGNER

What is it like to work at Rare?

The people:
The company has changed with the times, when I joined there were only around forty other people here. Now there are over two hundred working here, with the vast majority of them being much younger than myself. It is a very friendly team-based company with everyone working (very hard) towards the same thing, to produce the best games we can.

The environment:
Rare is not actually part of the world-famous Twycross Zoo as most of my friends seem to think.

The working environment here is very relaxed. We are situated in the middle of nowhere surrounded by lots of woodland and fields. My journey to work often involves avoiding all types of wildlife (pheasants, foxes, rabbits, random birds, horses and even a herd of cows) who seem intent on killing themselves by waiting in the bushes ready to ambush the next car travelling down the road.

Rare has loads of facilities for all its employees including arcade machines, Xbox 360 demo pods, a basketball hoop thing, footy pitch and probably loads more if I actually looked around a bit more.
