STAFF PROFILE: ADAM, STG PROGRAMMER
What do you do day to day?
My principal responsibility to date has been to work on the final stages of the asset production pipeline that the STG team offer to the game teams. I have been developing solutions that make it easier to work with the asset files the games use for storing anything a game could need such as animations, textures and models. Like all STG staff, I also have a certain amount of time vested in maintaining existing code, fixing bugs that are found and harvesting work or ideas from the game teams that they believe would be beneficial for the whole company to use.
The best thing about STG is the freedom to develop yourself in the direction you find most passionate. As an enthusiast of mathematically heavy problems, I am soon moving onto work relating more to animation and graphics.
What is it like to work at Rare?
The people:
The people at Rare are always very friendly and approachable, even when the topic of conversation is something other than work and games. Each person has a very obvious passion for quality and is always willing to help discuss an area that is new to you or to mull over some ideas you may have about the work being done.
The environment:
Rare's HQ is situated in an amazing location. I have never been a huge fan of working in busy city centres and Rare is wonderfully far from that environment. Surrounded by wonderful countryside with a huge variety of wildlife on site, it is truly tranquil. Plenty of sofas to sit on and chat, outdoor games activities on a hot summer’s lunchtime and the barns are all well equipped. |
