HEAD OF SOFTWARE FOR RARE LTD. (cont.)

Required Skills and Experience:
  • A degree in a technical subject.
  • Must have significant experience of managing software engineers, e.g. managing a software team of reasonable size over a complete project lifecycle.
  • Must have experience of managing software engineers with direct reports of their own.
  • Must be approachable and able to communicate and work with everyone across the studio, including designers, artists, producers and musicians, not just technical staff.
  • Exceptional problem-solving ability combined with a creative ethos.
  • Strong leadership and motivation skills.
  • Good mediation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to multi-task.

    The ideal candidate will:
  • Have experience of managing multiple teams.
  • Be able to interact with, report-to and influence senior IEB, MGS and Rare management.
  • Be confident in their ability to represent the company in any situation and to any audience, be they students, press, industry peers or senior Microsoft management.
  • Have an in-depth knowledge of the development of video games and/or architecting and engineering large-scale software systems.
  • Have a practical nature that understands the balance between features and deadlines.
  • Constantly seek to improve the development process.
  • Work with closely with all teams to facilitate their needs.
  • Have proven experience of creating and driving long-term technical strategy.

    Salary will be commensurate with experience and skills required for such a unique position.
